Millinery Intelligence
I hand-block high-end wool and straw hats that are fit to stay put on a Windy City winter day. I enjoy the dual processes of hatmaking both the initial shaping of the 2-D material into the 3-D shape and the detailed embellishing, from sewing wire into brims to making fabric flowers. I often work with vintage and second-hand hats, reblocking them into new shapes, sizes and designs, using all recycled and repurposed materials. While I use many vintage hat blocks, I also shape hats using found objects. My custom hats are made based on details about the wearer’s personality.
