Rockwell Crossing Artwalk accepting submissions

Fri, Apr 20 2007Comments (0) | Amy

Hey, everyone in craftyland! Friend of DIY Trunk Show Victoria Slone organizes the Rockwell Crossing Artwalk, and their application process has just opened. See her note below for more details.

*******************************************************
Happy Spring! It's that time of year again! We've started to accept applications for the Fourth Annual Rockwell Crossing Artwalk! It is a one day event that will take place on Saturday, Oct. 6th from 10 a.m to 5 p.m.

Due to the overwhelming jewelry submissions we've received in the past years, we will only be accepting the first 50 entries. After that, we will no longer be taking jewelry submissions. We will post when we hit that limit on our website.

For complete application information, please go to: RCArtwalk.com. Click on the "How to Participate" link.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to drop us a line and feel free to pass the info onto your crafty friends!

Thanks & good luck!
Victoria Slone
Event Founder/Coordinator

Thanks to the wonderful Alderman Gene Schulter, the usually mandatory city permit fee has been waived for this event!! The RCA is now only $30!!!

Upcoming Fiesta Cultural Show

Sun, Apr 15 2007Comments (0) | Cinnamon

Hey, all. We got this call for vendors to share. The email is at the end of the post.

**********

We are having the upcoming Fiesta Cultural on Sat. April 28th at Inter-American Magnet school in Wrigleyville, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. We are looking for artists to sell at the festival where we expect 600-800 attendees.

What kind of work are we looking for?
First and foremost, we want to involve Artists that are from or embody an aesthetic from a Latin American country. We also would like to stress Fair Trade products where people who are generating the product are being fairly paid for their work. This fits with our curriculum of pride in students' heritage and in caring for our neighbors.

We also would accept artists who use recycled items to create their artwork.

We are hoping to carry quality artwork that is original and affordable.
We are looking for functional and decorative artwork. We are looking for contemporary, attractive items that will appeal to the discerning customer. Items that are so unique, our customers will feel they won't find these things anywhere else.

We want to encourage the time-honored traditions of making arts and crafts to support their practice and continuation and as a way of supporting sustainability and promoting items whose in-house production has a low-impact on this beautiful earth of ours.

Lastly, we want to encourage and support up-and-coming artisans. Please note that we ask for donation of an item worth $50, if that is higher than the average price of the items being sold, that amount can be adjusted accordingly.

If you could please post this info to the DIY community we would be greatly appreciative. Anyone who is interested in being considered can contact me at amylzimmerman@gmail.com To learn more about Fiesta they can look at www.fiestacultural.org

Ladyfest looking for vendors

Wed, Apr 11 2007Comments (1) | Cinnamon

Hi,

On May 27th, South Union Arts in Chicago will be having a craftshow as a benefit for Ladyfest Chicago. This show will be at South Union Arts (1352 S. Union Ave.) at the same place where South Union Arts Market has been held, if you're heard of or participated in that craftshow. The show will last from noon until 5 PM and be followed by musical performances from around 6 or 7 until midnight.

Crafters will be charged a minimal amount ($15-$20) as a donation to Ladyfest Chicago. All crafters will need to bring their own tabletop to lay across the chairs. Pictures of South Union Arts Market are here and setup would be similar:

If there is another crafter that you would like to share a tabletop with, that is perfectly fine, but we ask that both crafters make the ($15-$20) donation, since this is a Ladyfest benefit. This will be a pretty intimate craft event, with a maximum of 20 tables/stalls so you will be sure to garner a lot of individual attention from shoppers.

We are also asking that crafters please create at least one item that is inspired by Ladyfest (www.ladyfestchicago.com & www.myspace.com/ladyfestchicago) and that proceeds from that item will be donated to Ladyfest.

If you have any other questions, please let me know. And also please let me know that you would like to confirm yourself for this event and reserve a space by responding to this message via Etsy or email (hurdler4eva@gmail.com)

Thank you for your support,
Amber

Handmade Nation documentary trailer

Sat, Apr 07 2007Comments (0) | Amy

If you've been to an indie craft fair in the past 18 months or so, you've probably seen crafty director Faythe Levine (and her intrepid cameralady, Micaela O'Herlihy) filming the goings-on for their Indie Craft Documentary project.

Well, the film has a brand new name -- Handmade Nation: The Rise of DIY Art, Craft & Design -- and a brand new trailer up at YouTube.

Watch it! Love it! Spread the word! (And if you have any extra cash,
throw it Faythe's way so she can get the film all finished up by this time next year!)
