E-mail troubles

Sat, Sep 17 2005Comments (0) | Amy

The big e-mail we sent out earlier this week to all the vendors and mailing list folks somehow angered the Gmail gods, and our account has been on lockdown for a few days. We can get mail in, but we can't reply or send anything out.

We've moved all the addresses to a Google Groups account to avoid this problem in the future.

Meanwhile, we're trying to get the mailbox situation sorted out, but if you've sent us an e-mail this week and we haven't responded, it's because we can't. We'll be sending replies through our personal accounts until we get the Trunk Show mailbox up and running again. We just didn't want you to think we don't love you! Because we do!

Update: Two months to go!

Sun, Sep 11 2005Comments (0) | Amy

Hey, everybody! It seems like it's been ages since last spoke. What's new? How was your holiday weekend?

Anyway, even though it's been a while since the last update, Cinnamon and I have been busy busy busy behind the scenes getting ready for the show. Some stuff you should know:

--We sent out a new press release early this week to various Chicago media.

--Posters and postcards are being designed as we speak and will be ready by the weekend of 9/24 so that those of you who are also exhibiting at Renegade Craft Fair can promote your work for the Trunk Show. We're also planning to get postcards out to the Ephemera zine fest at DePaul and at this year's EstroJam, which are all the same weekend.

--Once the posters and postcards are done, we'll also be sending out our vendor kits. We'll also hole up at various coffee shops around town in the weeks before the show so that you'll be able to pick up more promotional supplies from us.

--Last year the fine ladies of Chicago's Stitch-n-Bitch chapter taught knitting skills to people throughout the day. They'll be back again this year, but we're also having a chainmaille jewelry workshop (taught by Blue Buddha Boutique's Rebeca Mojica) and a collage workshop (taught by Spark Your Art's Ellen Gradman).

--We're working on the parking situation. If you've been to the DIY Trunk Show before, you know that finding parking around the fieldhouse is challenging indeed. We're working with the staff at Pulaski Park to see what our options are for using nearby lots, so we'll keep you posted on that.

--Check out our ad in the new issue of Venus! (page 77)

--We're figuring out our volunteer tasks for the show, and we'll probably need 20-25 volunteers for the day. Our lovely volunteers will be working 2-hour shifts, just like last year, mostly answering questions and handing out maps and directing people to the bathrooms. If you or someone you love would like to volunteer, drop us a line at diytrunkshow@gmail.com!

If you have questions about anything else, our in-box is always open!

Philanthropic Crafting

Thu, Sep 01 2005Comments (0) | Cinnamon

If you've been wondering what you could do to help out folks who were hurt by Hurrican Katrina, Craft Revolution has an entire page dedicated to just this.

We wholeheartedly send our sympathies to people who live in the areas affected and to anyone who has family and friends who has been affected. This effort created by one website is spreading in its scope and its nice to see all kinds of crafters pull together to help out folks who need it.
