Urban Craft Uprising: The Hippest Holiday Shopping in Seattle
Riding the Wave of the DIY Revolution on Sunday, November 6th in Seattle
Seattle, WA, November 6, 2005 Urban Craft Uprising is the avant-garde creation of Ashley Baker, Nikola Davidson, Markia Gwara, Cassandra Lanning, and Marisa Mouton. All five founding members noticed the lack of hip, funky, urban craft bazaars in Seattle featuring rising craft stars. As a result, they decided to put their talents to work creating the ultimate showcase for Northwest indie craft stars to strut their craftiness: Urban Craft Uprising was born.
Across the country, craft fairs are forming in many cities that provide an alternative to mass-production and that feature handmade goods with a “this is not your grandma's craft fair” attitude. Urban Craft Uprising took notice and realized Seattle needed its own showcase featuring local talent. "The do-it-yourself revolution is gaining a huge following. People looking for one-of-a-kind items, not found in department stores, can find funky, hip wares from urban, indie designers and craft stars at our show November 6th in Seattle. The goal for UCU is simple: To provide a vehicle for craft stars to get their unique items to the public and to help Seattleites find that perfect, exclusive gift in time for the holidays," said Marisa Mouton, spokesperson for Urban Craft Uprising.
Urban Craft Uprising opens the doors for its first event on Sunday, November 6th at The Artists Gallery of Seattle, 12-6pm in downtown Seattle. A variety of items can be found at Urban Craft Uprising, including ready-made craft kits, novel jewelry, independently designed purses and clothing, and handmade bath soaps.
