Sales Tax Increase

Thu, Jun 30 2005Comments (0) | Cinnamon

We would like to remind everyone out there who might have a Paypal or other shopping cart kind of account on their website, that if you live in Cook County you're going to need to increase the sales tax you collect to 9%. Why? Because sales tax in this county is increasing beginning on July 1 and we don't want to see you end up paying more money than you think you ought to. Actually, we just care about y'all.

DIY all year round

Wed, Jun 08 2005Comments (4) | Cinnamon

Tammy Terwelp was a member of the 2004 DIY Trunk Show and she's just started her own boutique which will specialize in handmade items for local artisans and crafters. She's still looking to fill up her shelves so read below and contact her if you're interested. Good luck, Tammy! We'll be rooting for you.

*******
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Chicago, Illinois June 8th, 2005---Mint is a brand new boutique located in Lincoln Park, set to open at 4pm on Wednesday, June 15th, 2005.

Mint features only hand-made items such as accessories, jewelry, handbags and greeting cards. Mint also presents candles, pottery and body care products all made by locals.

Mint is located at 1450 Webster Avenue at the corner of Webster and Clybourn in Lincoln Park -- the window space inside Studio 9 Gallery.

Mint will sell only the highest quality items, perfect as a gift for that hard-to-buy-for person or a great place to treat yourself to an original one-of-a-kind accessory.

Mint currently features designs from Sugarpunch, Rapt in Maille, Sweet Thunder, Tennis, Anyone?, Bad Kitten Soaps and Flamebabe Candles, as well as many others.

Mint is owned and operated by Tammy Terwelp, an avid crafter and jewelry maker who says, "I was having so much fun making my own jewelry and even more fun at the local craft fairs, that I wanted to be involved with Chicago's incredible craft and art community on a permanent basis. There are so many talented designers, they deserve a location to feature their wares year round."

Mint summer hours are Wednesday 4pm-8pm, Thursday 4pm-9pm, Friday 4pm-8pm, Saturday 12pm-7pm and Sunday 12pm-5pm. Mint is closed on Monday and Tuesday.

For additional information on Mint, contact Tammy Terwelp or visit www.mintboutique.com.

DIY Trunk Show III

Mon, Jun 06 2005Comments (0) | Cinnamon

We're delighted to announce that we're now accepting applications for the third annual DIY Trunk Show. It will be held Saturday, November 5th, at Pulaski Park Fieldhouse again. Show hours will be 10 am to 4 pm. We have the fieldhouse booked from 9 to 5, so there will be an hour for setup and an hour for tear down to provide vendors time to visit each other a bit, which was one of the requests we had last year.

We'll be accepting applications until July 8th, and we'll be announcing this year's list of vendors on July 15th. At that time we'll ask you to mail the $40 entrance fee (plus a $7 table rental fee if you want one) to us either by check/money order or Paypal. While you won't have to pay us money now, we will ask that you fill out every slot on the application form (http://www.diytrunkshow.com/join) and email us 2-3 images (or links to images) that we can put on our website. If you don't fill out all the information or if you don't send us your images, we'll be forced to put your application on hold.

While we aren't doing a juried show this year, we're not quite doing first-come first-served either. We are doing our best to make sure the widest variety of crafters are in the show. If we have two crafters with almost identical styles and products, we'll ask the person who applied first to join us. We will also be having some slots set aside for people who have never participated in a show before, so if you've been thinking of applying but haven't, now is the time to try.

There is a lot of information on the website that should answer any questions you have. We've also written a Craftifesto, explaining our DIY raison d'etre. If you still have questions, send us an email and we'll get back to you as soon as we can -- if your question is general enough, we'll post it to the news blog (http://www.diytrunkshow.com/news).

We're excited to plan this show for a third year, and we look forward to an event that is bigger and better than we ever dreamed when we first got this crazy idea that we could organize a craft show.

Excitedly yours,
Amy Carlton and Cinnamon Cooper

June 6th: Crafters! Set your mark!

Fri, Jun 03 2005Comments (0) | Cinnamon

I've added some new blanks to the application form which means that our wonderful web designer is trying to figure out what I did to the code so he can get the form to work. He'll be working on it this weekend so Monday, June 6th is the official opening date for applications to the 3rd annual DIY Trunk Show. We'll be sending out emails to everyone who is interested, so expect an email Monday.
